You know what really REALLY annoys me? I’ll tell you! It’s when people come up to me and tell me that I don’t look or sound like a girl who graduated from a public school in Kuwait. Or when people start talking about how girls who went to 7ikooma are less educated and more boy-crazy than girls who went to private schools. I’m not going to talk about the male-stereotypes because 1) I don’t want to keep saying him/her and 2) because I’m not AS aware of the male stereotypes as I am the female ones. Nibtidi il 7adeeth:

I graduated from a public school. I loved my high school and I love the friends that I made as a result of being there. I am not going to pretend that I am a pure bred 7ikooma girl because I only spent my high school days in one. Now, it really bothers me when people tell me that I don’t sound like a 7ikooma girl because I can speak English properly but I accept it and explain to them where I got my English from. I accept it because it is an undeniable fact that the English that is being taught at public schools in Kuwait is below par. What I don’t tolerate on the other hand is when people tell me that 7ikooma students aren’t as educated as Khasa students. It really bothers me because that remark drips of condescending ignorance. I’ll tell you why, while you were learning how to perfect your English, 7ikooma girls were taught how to speak Arabic properly, something ya 3yalt il khasa that you lack. Not all of you, just like not all of 7ikooma girls lack English skills. While you were being taught US history (which I was taught in middle school, ekh?) they were being taught the history of Kuwait and the Middle East. While you were being taught Science in English, they were being taught the exact same Science in Arabic. So tell me, PLEASE enlighten me, how the hell do you think that you were better educated? They took P.E., they took Home Ec., they took French, they took all the same classes that you took but in a different language. I’m the first person that will tell you that every person should have some understanding of the English language because it’s the most spoken language in the world and being fluent in it will help you A LOT. What it doesn’t do though, is be a determent of whether you are educated or not. On the other hand, do you know WHAT makes you look stupid? Not being able to hold a conversation in your mother tongue. Not being able to WRITE and SPEAK proper Arabic when you were raised your entire life in an Arab country. THAT is what makes you look stupid, not whether you can grasp the basic grammatical conventions of another language.

Phew! That took a lot out of me, what else did I want to talk about? Oh oh I remember, 7ikooma girls being sluttier and looser than girls that graduated from Private schools. I won’t answer this in the length in which I discussed the first matter. What I would like to say though is that, how many girls graduate from a private school per year? Let’s assume in the best case scenario that 200 students graduate from any given private school every year (the number is WAY less). If 200 students graduate every year, let’s say that 100 of them are girls. In a public school, 300 girls graduate every year (give or take some). I’ll go as far out to say that we have just as many private schools as we do public. If that was the case, a THIRD of the girls go to private schools while 2/3 go to public schools.

Let’s make this a tad more interesting using the Adorrian formula, in Kuwait we do NOT have as many private schools as we do public so in fact it could be as large as a quarter of girls go to private schools but it’s probably less than that. “People” say ina “ee ya3ni intay ra7 tilgain fas3at ib madares khasa laken mo kither ili tilgainhum ib madares 7ikooma, bil madares il khasa tilgainlech yumkin khams banat laken ib madares 7ikooma tilgainlech arba3ta3ash bint!”

Let us assume that this false statistic that you pulled out of your ass is true, Using my Adorrian formula, let’s say that the entire 16-year old female population of Kuwait consists of 100 girls. 25 girls go to a private school while 75 go to a public school. If in fact only 5 girls from the 25 are sluts then that equals 20% of the girls that go to this private school. Also, if 14 girls out of the 75 students at this public school are sluts then that equates to 18.6%. Now tell me, who is sluttier? :-)

The point of this post is not to say that fi’a mo3ayana is sluttier than fi’a okhra, I am plainly stating that obviously it seems like a bigger amount of slutty girls/lesbians is emerging from Public schools because there is an obviously bigger amount of girls in those schools! If there was an equal amount of girls in both schools then you would most likely have an equal (give or take one) amount of sluts in both.

I am completely drained from writing this and I would just like to add a small disclaimer that I have an equal amount of friends in both of these schools. I don’t think that one group is smarter than the other, I also don’t think that one group is sluttier than the other. I think they are both equally smart and slutty (or lack of). If you think this is offensive, then I’m sorry it wasn’t meant to be. The only way that you could actually perceive this post as offensive is if you in fact are from a private school, and if you DO think it is offensive that I think that you are JUST as smart as a girl from a Public school, then STFU I intended to offend you.

Also, this post does not apply to Arabic Private schools, only English and American ones. Wa shukran!

Sushi

In one of my political science classes today we played a little game where she divided up the class into partners and then sent 1 partner out of the room while she talked to the other partner and vice versa. We were playing the prisoners dilemma but we changed it up a bit to fit the situation of a classroom/cheating/failing. If you are not familiar with the scenario I am talking about then just read ahead and I will later on update this post with what I picked and what you should have picked, and trust me ladies and gentlemen there IS a right choice technically (although some may debate it).

There’s this dilemma that you might have heard about in Psychology/Sociology classes called the Prisoners Dilemma, it’s basically a scenario where you have committed a crime with an accomplice. You are caught but there is not enough evidence to put you away completely so the prosecutor gives you the choice to either confess or stay silent (he also gives this option to your accomplice but you have no way of contacting each other throughout)

If you confess, and your accomplice stays silent, you get a get out of jail free card and they get life imprisonment.
If you confess, and your accomplice confesses, you both get 20 years in jail.
If you stay silent, and your accomplice stays silent, you both get 5 years in jail.

Now, these are not debatable, you have no contact with your accomplice, and s/he is neither your friend nor your enemy. You just happened to commit a crime together. What would you pick and why? Would you confess or stay silent?

Update:

I chose to stay silent because I had hope in my bitch of a partner to stay silent and for both of us to get out in 5 years which is relatively better than all of the other choices, except for the one where I betray him/her which I would do but I kept thinking that if I thought like that, then they would think like that and we’d both end up confessing and going to jail for 20 years. I hoped that my good thoughts would penetrate the door and get to my partner. They didn’t. I ended up failing the class, or in this case life imprisonment.

Now, the right choice my comrades would have been to confess. It is what a “rational” individual would have done, as opposed to someone thinking of the collective good. What I (and Moniker) fell into was the Sucker Payoff, which basically means that we decided exactly the way our partners would have wanted us to decide because now they don’t have to go to jail at all. What all of you did (if we assume your partners confessed as well) falls under the dominant strategy. It is what most people do in order to maximize their profit. The optimal strategy though would have been for both of you to stay silent and get 5 years which is nothing, laken lil asaf, we have a bunch of backstabbing self-interested bloggers! You made the rational decision though, all of you except for Moniker (and me).

They produce this odor and they start to grow mold and you have to hand-wash each one individually for 30 minutes! Ba3dain ana ma3indi wakt aghasel is7oon kil youm! I have an education to pursue! I also hate cleaning the tub. :[ I feel like helpers are underrated bil Kuwait.

Why do Girls wear panties? My friends and I were discussing the need for panties a week ago. I mean yes we understand that men have to wear under garments for oh so many reasons but why do girls? That time of the month is an exception, but seriously is the reason behind panties lost on me (and B) for some reason? If you are aware of its benefits please enlighten us.
One of my answers was that it was because sometimes when you’re running to the bathroom a tiny droplet may beat you to it. Therefore, a material to hold all those droplets is in need.

Today was the last day of my conference which was about marriage. The program was 4 days. I really enjoyed putting it together and watching it play out. Also, the cute couples that showed up made it all worth while. Especially the engaged ones! Third day was Dr. Moussa Al juwaiser who spoke about how married couples tend to think and how you can understand your spouse based on actions and expressions. There was also a Yoga setion!

The most important day of all was today, the 4th day. Our speaker was Dr. Heba Qo6ub who spoke about the sexual relationship between couples. I of course made sure to attend and write notes so that I can help my fellow bloggers and spread awareness. :P
First of all, I’d rather this be written in Arabic because the lecture was in Arabic and so are some of my notes but I guess I’ll just do the Arabic/English version because it takes me so long to type in Arabic. Sorry in advance.

Certain points she talked about:
-Men are selfish.
-Motherhood is an instinct while fatherhood comes with practice.

She also referred to the Quran, I will type that in Arabic then explain it the way she did.

نساؤكم حرث لكم فأتوا حرثكم أنى شئتم وقدموا لأنفسكم واتقوا الله واعلموا أنكم ملاقوه وبشر المؤمنين

The first part she talked about was the word {nisa’ekum} and explained how this has to do with men being possessive and how it was meant to show them that it’s talking about THEIR women. Then she says {7arth lakum} tyee min an ya7ruth mithil il zira3a, and that they produce babies? Or something like that. {Fa aatuu 7arthakum} is ina ya3ni bima anna the women are yours and intaw ta7rethonhum fa ya3ni ta3alaw ib hal 7arth or something very weird like that and it has to do with sex. {aanna shi’tum} this part was elaborated very well or maybe I was just paying attention. She says that this has to do with the way sex is understood in Muslim communities. And that in order for you to have sex, you have to have three basics: 1) Al makan 2) Al zaman 3) Al kayfeya.

Al makan: she kept saying ina we should change rooms and have sex in the kitchen and the shower. This enhances the marriage. We should also have sex in hotels and public bathrooms. Lol okay I added the public bathrooms bas ya3ni I guess if you’re gonna do it in the kitchen then you might as well!
Al zaman: she said that the reason people associate sex with ‘night’ is because of an old jewish understanding that men aren’t supposed to touch women in daylight and that also they shouldn’t touch them when they’re naked but have them wear something that covers their entire body with a hole in it. li’ana basically you only have sex for babies. Wth lol? The point is you should have sex at all times and wear whatever you want or lack of it.
Al kayfeya: she referred to sex positions and LOL she kept referring to ‘girl on top’ as the cowgirl position and I couldn’t help but laugh! 7asaitni 13 year old in Biology! =wa qademu li’anfusekum} itgool the reason it wasn’t wa qademu li nisa’ekum or lil nisa’ was because inrid wingool ina men are selfish and if that was how it was said then they wouldn’t have done it. A: Jawabha was that there are sites that illustrate them and that they are too many to mention or count. They depend on physicial fitness, height and weight. Also, some of them may be 7aram so we should always make sure to check what goes where! Oh and for the first 6 months of marriage we shouldn’t experiment with sex positions (this was new and helpful information to me) because the vagina at the beginning isn’t flexible and it might get ruptured or something. It needs practice and we should stick to ‘missionary’ and ‘cowgirl’ (lol her words)

Q5: How do we know if our fiance is sexually challenged? Dr. Heba Qotub for this informative lecture and if she’s ever in Kuwait again, I’ll let everyone know.
I hope I haven’t offended any readers, and I’m really glad that this lecture took place and that I helped make it happen because we really need sexual awareness in Kuwait. It’s finally becoming a topic that can be discussed freely in conferences and lectures without the need for couples to feel ashamed or disgraced by it.

P.S. There was a story about a married man who went around having sex with the paid help (maids) and his wife was complaining. It was funny. There was also a story about a couple who didn’t know that the woman was supposed to be pleasured or that there was such a thing as orgasm for her. That’s another post for another day!

Abort The Law

I was recently reading an article on CNN. It was about how South Dakota banned abortion. I was very appalled by it. Actually appalled would be an under-statement. I’m furious! A friend of mine mentioned that it was because they were trying to reach a population target. Hmm, so?
I’m some what fine with them banning abortion, IF and only IF they left the option open for rape victims. After I read that they weren’t going to make any exceptions, I just got even more infuriated! Can you imagine being raped by your brother? Then finding out that you’re pregnant with his child? and if that’s not bad enough. You have to keep the baby?

A few reasons why I think that this is complete bullshit:
1) Children resulting from incest will most likely be handicapped or mentally-disabled.
2) No woman would want to keep a baby that resulted from her being raped! Is that a story you’d want to tell your child when they grow up?
3) Most of these babies will end up on the street or given up for adoption.
4) Thinking in the long run, Adoption agencies don’t have the capacity to hold that many babies. And raise them!

_MAYBE_ they’re trying to spread public awareness to the consequences of having unsafe sex. I guess couples who just happened to get pregnant will have to deal with it. Bas shino thanb hal maskeena who got raped? Shino thanb hal baby ili bi3eesh bidoon om or a proper father figure to live up to? Shino thanb hal adoption agencies wili yishtaghloon feehum? Shino thanb hal generation ili bi3eeshoon with the outcomes of this stupid-ass law.

Basically they’re getting a generation of handicaps and adoptions. gal3a.
